Territory For Borders
New Atlanta City
Council President Lisa Borders will address AEN at the October
21 meeting. Borders originally was set to speak in September,
but inclement weather forced her to reschedule.
Borders succeeds
Cathy Woolard, a lesbian who resigned her office to make an
unsuccessful bid for Georgia's 4th Congressional District
seat. Woolard spoke at AEN's July meeting, a debate that focused
on LGBT issues.
A senior vice president
at Cousins Properties Inc., Borders beat former City Councilman
Michael Bond in an August runoff.
Borders has said
that action should be taken against the Druid Hills Golf Club
for violating the city's nondiscrimination ordinance. The
club has denied spousal benefits to the partners of two of
its gay members. (Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin will speak
to AEN in November.)
Borders also has
pledged to support an equal benefits ordinance that would
award points to city contracts applicants that offer domestic
partner benefits.

Hundreds
attend AEN's Night at the Alliance
Several hundred
AEN members and guests attended AEN's Night at the Alliance
Theatre on October 5.
AEN members and
guests were able to watch this sold-out, soul-stirring production
before it is expected to make its way to Broadway in Spring
2005.
Many thanks to
AEN Directors Dan Lax and Jacob Rothschild for making this
event magical.
