Log Cabin Republicans President Patrick Guerriero will be the featured speaker at our Thursday, February 17 meeting.
Guerriero took the top spot at the nation’s largest LGBT Republican organization in early 2003. In 2004, the group, under Guerriero’s leadership, refused to endorse President George W. Bush for supporting for a constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage.
At only 25 years old, Guerriero was elected to the Massachusetts statehouse. Three years later, he became mayor of Melrose, a town in the Boston suburbs.
In January 2002, Guerriero received national attention when Massachusetts Gov. Jane Swift invited him to run for lieutenant governor as her running mate. Guerriero's selection marked the first time in American history that an incumbent governor selected an openly gay politician as a running mate. Although Swift later stepped aside in the race for governor, Guerriero helped Mitt Romney go on to win the election.
Guerriero will address AEN on the issues of gay marriage, diversity, civil rights and the need for inclusion in the Republican Party.
Guerriero is expected to take questions from the audience. To submit a question, please send it to questions@aen.org.
