President and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Atlanta
J. Scott Wilfong is president and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Atlanta,
which includes SunTrust banking activities in metro Atlanta, Gainesville
and Athens, Georgia.
A 30-year veteran of the banking industry, Mr. Wilfong previously
served as president and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Maryland. Prior to
joining a SunTrust predecessor in 1997, Mr. Wilfong worked as senior
vice president and commercial division manager at First Union National
Bank in Maryland.
Prior to that, he was a group head responsible for retail, middle
market and small business activities at First National Bank of Maryland,
which is now AllFirst. Mr. Wilfong began his banking career with
Equitable Trust Company in 1972.
Active in the community, Mr. Wilfong serves on the boards of the
United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, Central Atlanta Progress, Atlanta
Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Police Foundation, The Community Foundation,
One Ninety One Club of Atlanta, the Buckhead Coalition, Inc., the
Marcus Institute and St. Joseph's Health System. He is a member
of the Economic Development Committee for the Metropolitan Atlanta
Chamber of Commerce and a trustee of Mount St. Mary's College and
Agnes Scott College.
He has served on the boards of the Baltimore Development Corporation,
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Catholic Charities, Federal Reserve
Bank of Richmond - Baltimore Branch, Greater Baltimore Alliance,
Greater Baltimore Committee, Mercy Health Services, Inc., Neighborhood
Housing Services of Baltimore, Inc., The Family League of Baltimore
City, the Sellinger School of Business & Management and the
YMCA of Central Maryland.
Mr. Wilfong is a graduate of the Greater Baltimore Committee's
Leadership Program and CEO Program and the (Maryland) State Leadership
Program. He was named 2001 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the
Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals for the State
of Maryland.
A Baltimore native, Wilfong earned a bachelor's degree in Economics
from Mount St. Mary's College and an MBA from Loyola College.
